Government legislation in 2020 introduced ‘Fast-Tracked Approval For Building Upwards’ – the aim being, to provide an estimated 800 new homes per year by building upwards on top of purpose-built flats and an additional 7,800 homes per year for all other building up rights. Protecting garden space, avoiding significant disruption of basement conversions, boosting the construction sector by creating jobs and assisting the housing market post covid.
