Patcham and Withdean
To the very north of the city centre, you’ll find the sprawling residential areas of Patcham, Hollingbury and Withdean. Despite its appearance as a more recent residential zone, Patcham itself originated as a village and you’ll find historic buildings such as the old post office, a Grade II listed mansion and war memorial for fallen Indian soldiers.
A popular area for families with several local infant, primary and secondary schools nearby, you’ll find a vast amount of three to four-bedroom homes, including terraced and semi-detached properties.
Closer to the centre and surrounding the 63-acre park of the same name, is the peaceful neighbourhood of Preston Park. With a local train station serving both London and Worthing routes, as well as regular bus services in and out of Brighton and Crawley, it’s a popular destination for commuters and working families. Plus, nearby Preston Park is haven for picnics, barbecues, family gatherings and dog walking.
North Laine, Brighton
If you’re looking for an area that truly puts you in the thick of it, look no further than the North Laine area and cultural hub of Brighton. Famed for its quirky streets brimming with vintage, antiques and second-hand shops, as well as coffee shops, cafes and independent shops, the North Laine could be an ideal base for the young professional or couple looking to get a feel for the city.
Kemptown has long been established as one of the livelier parts of Brighton, with many bars, pubs and clubs welcoming you to the East side of the city. Maisonettes and apartments are common, with plenty offering quirky outside patios and private spaces.
However, past the initial hustle and bustle reveals another side of the area, with historic mews properties, green squares and gardens providing much more of a quiet, village feel and grand regency-style properties close to the seafront.
